Illustrated poster celebrating Team Scotland's participation in the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad & Tobago.
Sketches
The focus of the initial sketches was to develop a composition and explore the shapes and themes of the country’s cultural references, specifically music and tourism.
I wanted to create something visually similar to traditional travel posters and vinyl sleeves, taking inspiration from the flat shapes, natural flowing curves and grainy aesthetic.
It was important also to naturally incorporate both the Saltire and the flag of Trinidad & Tobago within the design.
Final Design
The vibrant colour palette was derived from a mix of Team Scotland and Commonwealth Youth Games Trinbago 2023 logos. Key visual references included the landscape of Trinidad & Tobago, as well as the Hasely Crawford Stadium that will host athletics during the games.
The result is colourful arrangement with a nod to the Caribbean landscape and stylistic references to the calypso music scene. The flags of both countries are represented within the composition, the black stripe of Trinidad & Tobago set within the athletics track, bringing the country together with the games.
